I'm working on the same thing. Four approaches at this point --

1. Just use the dumb visor clip on that came with the garage opener -- inelegant, but free.

2. Buy a surplus/salvaged Homelink transmitter from ebay and mount it in the overhead console. Less than $50, but requires careful surgery on the car.

3. Hack the existing door opener and wire it to a spare dashboard switch. Totally invisible, but tricky wiring.

4. Install an aftermarket rearview mirror that has Homelink feature. Haven't found one small enouch to clear the visors, and the Smart mirror mount is not standard.

At this point, I'm using option 1, but thinking about 3 or 2.

"factory option" -- we don't need no stinkin' factory option, we're modders!!!

I do wish there was an official Homelink remote option -- so simple, and once you have a car with one, so indispensable. I will be looking for one on ebay and will develop that mod since no one else has done it yet!

This issue came up with my motorcycle. I ended up hard wiring a switch on the dash to a remote and then hid the remote under the seat.

I am still contemplating a solution for the smart car. Everything points to a new rearview mirror but then the problem comes up of the sunvisors not fully flipping down!

All the best,

Aaron Lephart

I just bought a Homelink module from ebay -- I'll report on the progress of the mod.

There isn't one, yet. Because of the risk of EMI from the interior light I would choose the dash.

All the best,

Aaron -- that doesn't make sense -- the modules are usually installed in the overhead console or sun visor, right next to lights.

Very true, there is usualy a metal guard in place to divert the emissions (or at least there was on my Moms STS). Just being safe!

All the best,
