I noticed that overseas they have 2 particular engine variants where the ONLY difference is in the cars computer. It develops 60HP instead of 71HP. Now whats begs to be answered is what MPG would be between these 2? From everything I read on the Canadian forums it's a solid, 1MPG city and 2 MPG highway. Even better is it does NOT require the use of premium octane fuel. Could you live with that? Aaron Lephart

If the remap gain me 8-10 mpg rather then 1-2 mpg for 500 dollars maybe. Last edited on Fri Apr 18th, 2008 07:55 pm by mvukovich |

8-10MPG is simply not going to happen though. 1-2MPG is conservatively realistic. All the best, Aaron Lephart

It is possible to improve efficiency AND hp. The SMART cars that we have tuned are reporting an improvement in milage from 8-10%, which usually translates to ~4mpg

If I could remap for faster shift times, I'd do it. The car doesn't get very good mileage for as light as it is, but mileage isn't a big concern for me...but getting killed by being rear-ended while the transmission stalls and thinks bothers me. It bothers me enough that I'm just about ready to sell the car. Supposedly the shift times are engineered for maximum efficiency, but I wonder how engineering a significant rpm drop, and then having to regain momentum can be efficient. Give me F1 shift times

You will notice much quicker shifting with our programming.

With the price of gas down right now, is the $ difference to premium still a concern? All the best, Aaron Lephart

Yessssssss. Now there you go again gas is going up again..... That's not the issue..... atleast if you can't get a premium gas any were else you might just get the reg. ones. were you are not in stress might damage the engine...

The only difference that I can see between the 70HP and 61HP engine offered in the 451 smart car's is the compression ratio. And the 61HP does not require high octane gas as far as I know! All the best, Aaron Lephart
