I know it's months away from thinking about it but I wonder how easy it would be to bolt the turbo from the Euro spec 451 to the USA car? And more importantly is it worth the cost? Looking on paper it's a 13HP jump. Wow, and I remember the days when to get that kind of power increase all you would need was an air filter setup. LOL not exactly compareng apples to apples. I would be more inclined to add the Euro spec start/stop technology the way gas prices are going. Rumor is that could be something we see in a couple years anyhow. Just thinking, Aaron Lephart

I know it's months away since I bought my 451 (I live in Europe) but I wonder how easy it would be to fit the Cruise Control on the new model that the old model had no trouble in having? (Just paraphrasing ... ) It seems Mercedes Benz flatly refuse to either comment on this topic or to instruct their dealers in any way despite reiterated insistence from many that like myself had this option fitted to the previous one and downright DEMAND satisfaction. Now with the introduction of this vehicle in a market that traditionally fits this as standard as required by most, their pig-headedness is even more difficult to understand. Happy Humbug and well, you know the rest ... bipbip

Hello, Welcome to the forum. I am not sure how involved the addition of cruise control is. From everything I read you cannot bolt the 450 equipment over. One thing for sure is with all the interest this car is causing, someone on the aftermarket will come out with one! Aaron Lephart

Take a look at "http://www.cruisecontrol451.com" for a very promising prediction of a group that is hard at work to get on to market as soon as they can. I've also read that there are a LOT of differences between the wiring of the two models. I have high hopes for the one at the above site and I've also spoken quite a bit to those who are involved. I am not involved in any way but if you look at the website you will see that I'm one of the few people posting there. I'm just very eager for them to be a success so it will get to market and be supported. From the earliest indicators it doesn't sound like it's going to be too hard to install yourself. I'll sure give it a try if that continues to be true.

At the very least re-mapping the electronic controls will be required - and nobody has done it yet that I know of. And, your warranty will be void too. The really fun alternative is the one I want to do, but probably won't - at least initially. There is an outfit in the UK, (http://www.smartuki.com/) putting Suzuki Hyabusa engines in Smarts at a turn key cost of about $20K, (this is in addition to the price of your car) but give you a 4.2 second 0-60 time. Fun...BIG fun. Of course, the warranty is seriously voided, and you're going to need other stuff like some big brakes and more meat contacting the road, but man would this be fun.

Already had the smartzuki idea run through my head. A limiting factor may be the subframe they designed only works on the earlier "450" model smart cars. I like the turbo idea, been researching that for a couple months to. Basically your talking about a 14HP jump (70HP to 84HP). Not sure it's worth the money; but someone will come up with something if the demand is there. FYI I believe I was quoted $700.00 just for the turbo manifold to start the process. Then $1000.00 for spare ECU, etc. Aaron Lephart

I emailed the guys at Smartuki asking about compatibility with the 451 and emissions compliance, (I'm not sure how they certify a car with a motorcycle engine in it). Paul at BikeBits R Us, the folks doing the Smartuki replied that in the next few weeks they will be working on the kit to fit the 451, (and that was a few weeks ago that I wrote him). He didn't know anything about emissions, (not a surprise) and Texas has been slow with an answer - I get emails from them saying that that the question has been forwarded, but no definitive answer as of yet. My ultimate would be to go to Hambach, pick up my car, take it to the Smartuki guys for ALL the work, and then see it being loaded on the ship for home. Hmmmm new vehicles are exempt from smog for the first 2 years. Now would be the time to do it for me! Thank you for your research. Aaron Lephart

I was both surprised and disappointed, but that just leaves the option open to offer it on the second generation. Gonna need a second reservation to hold my place in ine for that one...
