Curious what the biggest pet peeve is with your smart car you would like to see broken? I have a one that I am about to break in a big way, details to come shortly.
All the best,
Aaron Lephart

You already know what mine is. That gawd-awful transmission. It's the reason the car is going on the block in the next two weeks. I read about the ECU remap, but to spend $695 on something that is unknown, will void my warranty, and probably won't satisfy the problem, doesn't interest me.
Moving on to another vehicle, and I will wait for either the Toyota IQ, or the next best thing.
Other than that I really enjoy the smart. It's fun to drive, and fulfills my needs for a car, although I'm in disagreement with all the glowing comments from so many people. It's not the most fun car I've ever had. My Toyota MR2, the MINI JCW, and the Audi TT were all more fun. But, most of those writing the comments are Millenials or Gen-Xers that have had maybe two cars - and we know what kind of affordable excitement, automotively speaking, has been out there in the last decade.
I will be curious to see what your pet peeve is, and how you're going to fix it.

I agree about going with something that is unknown at the moment.
BRABUS has been able to speed up the shifting, why can't smart?!?!?!?!
Pet peeve hint #1!

All the best,
Aaron Lephart

OK this pretty much gives it away but here it is. My pet peeve is allot of people consider the smart car a "city car" only and although its size and power are more suited for city life its entirely capable of freeway driving!
Why am I doing this? For no other reason then I can! Not out to prove anything to anybody and plan on having a great time!
This trip could take anywhere from 3 weeks to a more realistic 4+ weeks to complete. In the meantime I have opened up my cell phone blog to keep you as up to date as possible. I am bringing a laptop with me but internet access may be a few days apart.
I have some things to button up before my trip. Rebuild my desktop PC, install bluetooth in smart car, things like that. I plan on leaving sometime this week!
Trip rundown by major city, L.A., San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Salt Lake City, Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Detroit, Columbus, D.C., Charlotte, Savanaah, Miami, Key West, Mobile, Baton Rouge, Dallas, Phoenix, Home!
What is barely visable on the map is my plan on taking the car to Canada and in the opposite corner Key West!

All the best,
Aaron Lephart

Parrot CK3100 bluetooth module installed. Had it professionally done even though I could do it myself. I figured it was cheaper then waiting for a replacement part after I broke something during the install!
Works great! Only thing left is to rebuild my desktop PC and then I will be on my way! I have some information I need off the harddrive otherwise I would have left earlier.
All the best,
Aaron Lephart

If you live near a Fry's or CompUSA, you ought to be able to find a hard drive case that you can pop your hard drive in and use a usb port to your laptop.

Thanks! I was able to add it to my parents computer as a slave drive and copy everything I needed to USB keydrive. Loving jumperless SATA!
All the best,

Have fun!
A couple of weeks ago, you could have stoopped in Oshkosh Wisconsin for the EAA Annual fly-in.

Hello from Boise!
The smart car is great, better then I expected. I did manage to hit an object in the road and bent a rim before entering Canada which cut my visit short. I did'nt want to be stuck up in Canada with a flat tire. Turns out everything is ok and I will press on!
2,100 miles on this trip so far, 4,000 miles on the car! Please check the blog for more up to date information. I will post again as I obtain internet access!
I will need a solid week to detoxify from energy drinks upon my return home!
All the best,
Aaron Lephart

| They probably have more access to smart parts than we do here, being that they have had smarts for a few years and Mercedes is the direct importer. Too bad you did'nt get more time to spend up there.

Hello from Denver!
Wow had car going up 6% grades in Wyoming. Not short grades either. 8 minutes of the car floored in 3rd and 4th! But it made it @ 65MPH.
Things I noticed about smart car, mute button pauses the cd if your playing one, cool! See you at the next stop.
All the best,
Aaron Lephart

Still in Denver, still having fun! Visited smart center Denver today and they are very nice. Overall they rank next to smart center Seattle as dealers I am impressed by. Revised my route to get rid of about 600 miles of backtracking. Apparently MS Mappoint did'nt pick up on that. Then only to be invited to the Corvette's at Carisle event 300 miles out of my way, so its a wash! Beyond that just meeting up with friends and family.
All the best,
Aaron Lephart
