| I'm searching for any info on installation depth, chassis size codes, etc for smartcar. I saw a post from the UK for a head unit swap but that's about it. Any ideas?

I remember reading that you would have to convert the double DIN headunit to a single DIN unit. Nothing was mentioned as far as restrictions on depth due to support bars for the chassis. My local smart center has already converted at least 1 smart radio 10 unit to single DIN navigation.
You may have to search around UK sites for the adapter to single DIN. I believe flying tiger in Canada can source this part. http://www.flyingtiger.ca

I'm confused now! I found this blog from Crutchfield in which they use a single DIN unit in a smart. http://community.crutchfield.com/blogs/av_tips/archive/2008/02/01/smart-car-sneak-preview.aspx
Is it possible that vehicle is not US spec/model 451? Is that something that changed with the 451? I recall that the UK article I mentioned initially was also a single DIN.
Thanks for any help....

No problem here. I can see where you may be confused. The model smart car pictured is the earlier model 450 not the current 2008+; model 451.
All the best,

| Thanks for the clarification. I'll either go with the adaptor or try a double DIN.

Is your goal to add bluetooth functionality?

| Not necessarily bluetooth, but rather iPod control, USB jack and HD radio. I see that the aux jack is located in glove box but not clear on how that connects with an after-market install.

Providing your new headunit has the aux output jack as a "mini jack" you will be fine, but I have a feeling it's parts of a electrical harness. FWIW;I did not seee a seperate and distinct jack on a "Radio 10" headunit that was out of the car a few days ago.
