I received my Passion about a month ago - loaded - everything on it except the alarm. Black leather, Radio 10, blah, blah, blah. I added window tint, and heavyweight Lloyd's mats, (black, of course). Good looking, fun car, BUT - here's my dilemma, I have a 2002 Audi TT that I must sell, and that seems to be a problem in today's weird auto market. It gets decent mileage, runs like the hotrod that it is, very comfortable, and should be worth about $20K. All of a sudden the bottom drops out of the market and the best offer is $16K. Do I take the $4K loss? But, the four grand would buy a lot of gas for the TT. So, do I sell the smart, and wait out the next generation, and go ahead and ride the TT's value to the bottom? That's what I'm looking at now - oh yeah, and the buyer for the TT wants the car by the end of the week for a multi-state trip, so time is of the essence on the decision. I'm not looking to scalp a potential buyer, I want what I have in the car $17,500 no negotiation, no delivery - just a perfect car with about 500 miles on it. In Plano, TX. Clear title. Orphan shoppers, this is your chance, but time is short.

My advice would be sell the TT and drive the smart car which stands to hold its value for the next year. Do you have the 1.8T or 3.2 in the TT? Quattro? All the best, Aaron Lephart

The loss on the TT sale would be in the neighborhood of $5K, $11K over what i have in it. I can buy a lot of gas for that amount. I'd like to keep the smart, but in theory selling for cost it should be easy when there are so many that want one. But, no bites yet.

My Audi TT looks like it may get sold...buyers nowadays are a different breed. When I buy a car, and tell the seller I'll be there in an hour - I'm there. But, these clowns now say they're coming out and two weeks later they call and ask about the car again. WTF? Meanwhile, there has been a lot of interest in the smart, but unless something unforeseen happens - it's not going to be sold. My favorite offer on it (off of Craig's list) was a guy that said that he would buy it if I would sell it for $500 over sticker, I emailed him and asked if he truly wanted me to raise the price. I have collected about 5 names of potential buyers in the immediate area, but like I say, I don't think it's going now...and, just like the TT - nobody has bothered to ask to even see the car.

Good luck on your sale of tht TT. I would have liked to snatch that smart off of you, but I would have had to sell my Miata to be able to finance it. According to the estimated date on me getting a smart, it looks like mine will be a 2010 model. Reservation Number 1390 ETA October-December 2009.

Yes. I saw the report, but I don't particularly like having a belt driven starter to rely on. I think I would rather stick to the standard starter, myself. I don't think it will be good on the battery or the generator/starter. And in the summer, it's going to tick off people that want their A/C running at stop lights. Voice of experience here, I had a Honda Civic Hybrid. Last edited on Mon Jul 14th, 2008 03:57 pm by DaveInTexas |
