I won't now for sure until another week or so. But it's expected the Brammo electric motorcycle is going to add 128kw hours (about $20.00) to my electric bill per month. Solar has never sounded so good!

All the best,

Aaron Lephart

 That would amount to $0.31/Kw... Ouch!!!

I'm paying $0.105/kw and I know that is not the cheapest rate around the country.

Sorry for the confusion, its $20.00. Its .16 a kw. I was factoring in a "fillup" on solar away from my house half of the time. If you had to put a dollar amout on it I would say double my rate @ $40.00 total.

All the best,

Aaron Lephart

Daily commute. If I take it easy it consumes .80kw and costs $0.13. If I drive aggressive it consumes 1.05kw and costs $0.17. 1700 miles and loving it!

Revised 7-12-10 $0.12 each way if I don't speed. Use's .75kw each way.

All the best,

Aaron Lephart

Finally a solid month of Brammo use. Almost twice the usage, but 1/3 of the cost because of A/C cycling credits! June was a partial use month as it acounted for roughly 3 weeks of the Brammo recharges. In the winter when I don't recieve credits for the A/C the monthly charges may increase. Of course this may offset the lack of motorcycle use in the cold/wet months ahead.

A more accurate total is being tracked by my kill-a-watt meter hooked up to the bike. I will know next Friday what the kw usage and total fee's are.

Prior to getting this bill I already started the search for solar. In fact I found a group purchase that is $5.44 a watt installed. But I ran the numbers and found over 18 years if I lease the system it would cost $40.00 a month. And if I bought the system it would jump to nearly $70.00! I want to be "green" and all but in this case its not smart!

All the best,

Aaron Lephart

It may not seam monumental but just announced is the release of a 100watt equivalent LED light. I have a few 60watt versions floating around the house.

Here is an updated electric bill. I am entering the month of air conditioner cycling discounts. So I am prepared for sub $10.00 electric bills, even with the Brammo!

All the best,

Geesh, I wished I could use so little. My house will probably go through about 2000KW this month. Our 100 degree days are starting early this year. And, oh by the way, the energy companies charge me $10 to be their customer. !@#$% jerks!

I guess this falls under Eco!

Found a program to exhange my gas mower for a new electric one!

Here is how I am working this. My mower is 5 years old but I bought it new and my yards are small. So there is no sense in turning in a nice newish Craftsman 5.5HP mower. My neighbor has lusted for my mower because his mower is on its last legs.

So I sell him my mower for $150.00, and I get his old mower to trade in. And I buy new electric model for $160.00! WIN WIN!

All the best,

Aaron Lephart

They did a similar program here in Dallas.

I have a large lawn and it would take a fairly long cord to mow it.  The next problem lies in that you also have to be careful of how you mow, so that you don't run over the cord.

Personally, the old fashioned Real Mower is the way to go.  No electricity and no gas.   As long as you don't let the grass get too tall between mowing, they are easy to use.

As it turns out, I haven't used my house A/C in about 2 years. Mostly because I can put up with a lot and I do what I can do be "eco". So when it came time to cycle the A/C and make sure everything was ready for summer, I got warm air! Sweet! I have made it a point to only replace and upgrade things that are either failing or have failed. As it turns out it could have been recharged as there was no refrigerant in the lines. But this happened about 2 1/2 years ago to and figured now is as good a time as any to get a new model. I wanted a 19-20 SEER rated A/C unit. However it requires everything get changed out, the condenser, coils in attic, blower unit, furnace, and the killer of the deal, a 35foot run of 2 copper pipes that run from the outside condenser to the furnace box which contain the A/C exchange coils. So I decided the most cost effective upgrade should be to replace the 10 SEER condenser with a 14 SEER model. And while I am at it and so it matches also replace the coils in the attic. 14 SEER was also the limit to the current copper piping running in the walls. This new unit also has that R410 refrigerant which is supposed to be better for the environment.

All the best,
Aaron Lephart
