This post will be updated in the future. This just gives everyone a little background on me and what the website is all about. What does the 451 in the website name signify? See below, the 451 model smart is the 2nd generation model that is for the United States, Earlier model's where called 450 model smart cars. Those 450 models that did make it into the Untied States where grey market cars converted by G&K in Santa Ana, Ca. Why do you like the smart car? I drove one of the 450 model smart fortwo cars when I was on vacation in Germany back in 1998. It had a few flaws but I thought then the car was the ultimate definition of having a niche market. I am happy to say all the things I disliked about the previous generation has been addressed. (Pogo ride from short wheelbase, 2nd rate interiors plastics, buzzy engine, etc) The car has changed much like the American car market itself. Higher gas prices, environmental concerns are just a couple of the reason’s the car will appeal to the masses. Why is this forum not specific to the USA? Simply put, because the car is not specific to the USA. The 451 model smart is available in 36 countries. “Other” websites limit themselves by restricting talk to the USA. There is something for everyone to learn. Privacy policy: At no time will any information contained within your member profile or anywhere on this website be given to anyone. While "other" websites collect this information for potential sale to third parties. I am a firm believer in privacy rights. Short of a MASS E-mail, which I have yet to do; you will not recieve any e-mail from us. Even then, it will only be for a major site announcement. User sessions are retained for 15 minutes via a cookie. After that you may have to log back in. Is there a charge for this site? No, and there never will be. I think it is very difficult to run an enthusiast website and be unbiased if I have site sponsors. That’s not to say I won’t promote products I believe in. What is your automotive background? In my brief 14 year driving history I have had everything from a 130HP V6 to a 650HP V8, and allot in between. Everything from modifying the car with bolt on accessory's to taking the original engine that came with the car and swapping it for a larger one. I have no official training but allot of real world experience. Being involved with cars for as long as I have I also have a network of friends that work in and outside of the car industry. I am also an avid sportbike rider. I worked in the motorcycle industry for 7 years until a serious accident and the events following it left me with discontent for my employer, and am actively pursuing other ventures. What do you forsee this website becoming? A kind of "one stop shop" for everything smart. A place where people can meet and relay information about the smart car. Community involvement is what drives a product like the smart car. Growing it from a "niche" market to something allot more mainstream is what a product like the smart car deserves. And to quote Dave Schembri from smart USA "The smart car is something that the American market has never been more ready for!". My promise to you. This website will always be smart owner run and operated. This website will always be free and never have a charge associated with membership. This website will always be free of banner ad's, regardless if they are smart related or not. Images will not be "tagged" with website names and/or endorsements. This website will always be unbiased. Unlike "other" forums I do not censor private messages. This is a fan operated website. We hold no affiliation; official or otherwise with smart GMBH, smart USA, or any of their partners.
